Educational Technology That Facilitates Student Learning
A2)Like I mentioned before, there are many educational resources on the internet that can leave you not knowing where to begin. Through my own research, I have found three credible resources that provide you with links to different online tools to be utilized in the classroom. These three websites guide teachers to resources that best fit your classroom.
1.The first source that I found was an article titled "Research-Based Technology Integration Strategies" written by Liz Kolb on Edutopia. This article begins by emphasizing the importance of keeping learning social, ensure that the technology adds value, and making learning authentic. The article is divided into three sections, using those topics stated above, to discuss why they are important and provided easy links to case studies and online tools to back up their info. The article was written by a former teacher who saw the positive outcomes of properly using technology in the classroom and the impact it had on student learning. When clicking on the resources provided, mission statements and factual evidence is provided to help teachers differentiate what they could use to be best fit for their classrooms. Video tutorials are also provided to teachers for a quick and easy understanding of how to apply them to your teaching. Overall, this article gave great insight on the research for educational technology and helpful resources to get you started.
2. The second source I found was EdSurge Product Index. This is a helpful directory when first looking into educational technology. There are links providing research and evidence to show their product effectiveness to help guide teachers in the direction that best fits their lesson(s). On the website, you can navigate through many different tools specifying your grade level, subjects, or developmental needs. This source also provides user insight with the developers to help fix any discrepancies to continuously create better working environments for future users.
3. The third source I discovered in my research was Learning Assembly. This companies mission is to "rigorously assess and curate"(Learning Assembly) highly used edtech tools available on the market, keep open communication between teachers and schools to highlight the best edtech tools that support teachers and students, give these edtech companies critical feedback to help with improvements, and "analyzing and sharing evidence of learning outcomes"(Learning Assembly). This unbiased communication is extremely helpful for teachers when deliberating between online sources
One strategy for integrating educational technology to facilitate student learning that I like to use in my classroom is a communication platform between the students, parents, and I. Using an online platform like this allows students to easily submit assignments and get quicker feedback, the parents/students to review progress throughout the year, and opens a new door of communication for all parties. This is a great way to build student/family connections and keep students motivated by providing feedback not only at school, but that can be accessed outside of school as well.
Another strategy for integrating educational technology to facilitate student learning is to find tools that use synchronized learning. There are some students that may find it difficult to translate the skills learning in online tools into every day practices. Allowing students to use tools that they can work on together opens a door for more receptive learning through these meaningful conversations/interactions. This can help with differentiating curriculum depending on developmental needs.
