Assistive Technology
4A)One example of an educational technology tool is the website Raz-Kids. It is an interactive online reading program that fosters reading skills and keeps data to track of progress as the student uses it. I love that I can use this resource to ensure at home reading is being kept up to date as well as utilizing it in my classroom. I am able to keep track of students reading not only at school, but at home as well.
Another educational technology tool that I like to utilize in my classroom is Scholastic News. It has weekly online aritcles that meet my standards and allow my students to absorb the content in a more interactive way. Each article is attached with a short quiz, videos, pictures, and games to keep engagement. It brings a different connection to the content than just reading the physical copy together in class. Again, I enjoy that this can be accessed both at school and at home.
4B) Technology is not only utilized via the internet or on a computer/tablet. Technology can used an assistive way in the classroom to to meet individual student needs. For example, if there is a student in a classroom that is hard of hearing, the school provides headsets or earpieces that can connect to a microphone worn on a teacher all throughout the day. This constructs a learning environment that acknowledges and meets the individual child's needs. Another example of an assistive technology that can used in a classroom would be a brail keyboard or a device that can read aloud for a student that is visually impaired. This ensures the student's individual needs are met by allowing them the same independence the other students are experiencing.
